Snow Go Assist
Snow Go Assist is a seasonal subsidy program designed to help low-income seniors and adults with physical disabilities manage the cost of snow and ice removal during Ottawa’s harsh winter months. Funded by the City of Ottawa and administered through local community support agencies like Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre, this initiative ensures that vulnerable residents can maintain safe access to their homes without facing financial hardship.
What the Program Offers
Eligible participants may be reimbursed for up to 50% of their snow removal expenses, with a seasonal maximum that varies depending on location (urban or rural). This support applies to snow and ice clearing from private driveways and walkways, helping residents maintain safe access to their homes throughout the winter.
Who Is Eligible?
To qualify for Snow Go Assist, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be 60 years of age or older, or an adult with a physical disability
- Have no one living in the home who is physically able to perform snow removal
- Provide proof of income from one of the following sources:
- Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS)
- Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)
- Canada Pension Plan Disability Benefit
- Ontario Works (with proof of disability and/or age)
- Essential Health and Social Supports
- Home Help Program
Income eligibility thresholds may vary from year to year. Interested applicants are encouraged to contact a Service Coordinator to confirm current income criteria and discuss their eligibility.
Applicants must also submit a signed snow removal contract or proof of payment from a contractor or individual providing the service. Special circumstances may be considered with appropriate documentation.
How to Apply
Applications for the Snow Go Assist program are distributed every October, with a submission deadline in early December. Funding is limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so early application is encouraged.
To receive an application or get help with the process, contact a Service Coordinator at 📞 613-591-3686 (option 3).
Additional Support
The Snow Go program also offers a matching service to help seniors and persons with disabilities find reliable snow removal contractors at affordable rates. While Snow Go Assist provides financial reimbursement, the Snow Go program helps connect residents with service providers in their area.
